Pari Forood is the author of the true-life novel, The Gates of Light, published in May 2015. After graduating from Vassar College, she was the Press Secretary to Congressman Hamilton Fish, Jr. in Washington, D.C. where she was inspired to write this true-life novel about the issue of immigration, both as a policy statement and a personal account, relating her family’s story.
This novel follows the journey of 16, 17, and 18-year-old American teenagers as they unwittingly become part of a plan to help Poland achieve democracy through the subtle art of influence and music. Narrated by the 17-year-old heroine, Jordan Davis, the story is set in Florida, New York, Washington, D.C., and various cities in Poland. Interspersed throughout the narrative are historical references to real events, giving an accurate picture of the U.S. government and Vatican involvement in the first cracks in the iron curtain.
The Gates of Light, invites us to reflect on our own diverse nationalities while simultaneously understand what it means to be American. Through lighthearted yet accurately profound writing, the author faces unapologetically her love affairs and back-door Congressional dealings to show that courage is rarely simple and can come at the most unexpected time. She confirms that our ancestry can be our greatest asset and self-acceptance of identity our greatest redemptive achievement.
